Artisanal Reupholstery of a Pair of Art Deco Armchairs

A fully handcrafted upholstery intervention on an authentic pair of Art Deco armchairs. This was not a simple fabric replacement, but a complete artisanal process, carried out using traditional methods and carefully selected materials.

The seats were completely dismantled and rebuilt starting from the original wooden frame, which was preserved intact. The preparatory phase involved removing all worn components, followed by a new layered padding made with vegetable horsehair and hand-stitched webbing, laid on a base of jute and strong canvas. A process that demands expertise, precision, and knowledge of historical materials.

The chosen upholstery fabric reflects the spirit of the era, with a geometric pattern clearly inspired by the Art Deco style, in dialogue with the fluid lines of the curved wooden armrests, which were restored and polished to a warm, satin finish.

The result is a pair of armchairs restored not only in appearance, but also in structural integrity and comfort — ready to live again in a contemporary setting with the same elegance as before.

A tailor-made intervention, blending memory, craftsmanship, and respect for the original piece. Because every restoration, when done right, is also an act of responsibility toward the past.
