Armchair Designed by Massimiliano Lanciano – Artisan Craftsmanship

A designer’s vision meets artisanal mastery in this one-of-a-kind armchair, entirely handmade by following the most demanding and innovative traditions of craftsmanship.

The legs, the true stylistic and structural heart of the project, are shaped from solid Canaletto walnut, composed of three cross-grain glued layers — a technique that ensures long-lasting strength and stability. Hidden within these sculptural curves are water-jet cut iron cores, precisely shaped to match the profile. These inserts reduce flexion and reinforce the structure without compromising its visual lightness.

The double curvature of the legs gives the armchair a fluid and dynamic elegance. The hand-carved bevels at the joints are not only functional connectors, but also decorative accents — a visible sign of the tailor-like care dedicated to the woodwork.

The seat and backrest structure were designed with a strong focus on ergonomics, ensuring authentic comfort. The handcrafted padding features individually sewn springs on hemp straps, following traditional methods, and is filled with hand-tufted vegetable horsehair, achieving the perfect balance between support and lasting comfort.

The upholstery is made from a contemporary design fabric, with bold, stylized graphics that evoke the language of 20th-century artistic avant-gardes. Every detail is meticulously finished — from the stitching to the shaping — in a continuous dialogue between art, material, and function.

An armchair that stands as both a work of craftsmanship and a unique piece, a living testament to what it means to craft by hand today — with vision, precision, and deep respect for the original design.
